What Is a Forward Deployed Engineer?

A Forward Deployed Engineer is a dedicated technical resource who embeds directly with a customer's team to own implementation outcomes — not just support tickets. FDEs work alongside R&D, IT, and compliance teams to configure, optimize, and scale platform deployments in the customer's specific regulatory and technical environment.

Life sciences organizations have unique infrastructure requirements: validated environments, strict change control, integration with lab instruments and EHR systems, and regulatory documentation for every system change. A Forward Deployed Engineer ensures that platform deployments meet these requirements from day one, reducing time-to-value and eliminating the gap between vendor promises and operational reality.

The FDE model represents a fundamental shift from traditional SaaS support. Instead of ticket queues and knowledge base articles, organizations get an embedded engineer who understands their regulatory environment, their data architecture, and their compliance requirements.
